I can thank horror for hooking me on books. As a youngster I had no interest in books. I didn't seek them out and the ones I had been given or had been forced to read in school just didn't hold my interest. I recall visiting a friend's house in the early days of junior high school. I wandered into his sister's room, an older sister who was away at university. Sitting on her bookshelves among the typical uninteresting girl flotsam were a half dozen Stephen King novels.
