TEMPLAR
A thousand years ago, in the name of the Roman Church and the Christian God, the Knights Templar waged and won a crusade to take back the Holy Land from the forces of Islam. Eventually, they threw out the Muslims, and took back Jerusalem.
The Crusades eventually became a failed campaign, but the Orders role in the Holy War had established the bravery and honor of the Templars. Their numbers, power, and wealth had all grown, but the rapid ascendance of the Knights Templar had inspired jealousy within the church and among other knightly orders. Soon, a plot was hatched to author the Orders destruction. The enemies of the Templars united, helped by Rome and the Papacy, to defame the Knights Templar and accused them of heresy. The order was disbanded, and its leaders tortured and hanged.
But those that escaped this inquisition held a secret bond and did not renounce their vows to God and Honor they went underground. For eight centuries they secretly recruited, developed fighting skills, fantastic weapons, and surfaced only in times of great emergency such as now.
The modern church has uncovered the Order and seeks again to command their valor, to ask them again to sacrifice their lives in the name of God to save mankind from itself.
